Win-long Chia studied Chemistry at Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan from 1975 to 1979. After completing a two-year mandatory military service, I went to the United States for graduate study in 1981 and earned my Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts in 1987. My dissertation focused on Polymer applications, and my research experience covered on conductive polymers, thermoplastic elastomers, photoresists, and polymer–supported reagents. Upon graduation, I returned immediately to Taiwan and spent two years in industry, working first ata petrochemical company and then atOAK Materials Limited,a subsidiary of Allied-Signal,in printed-circuit board manufacturing.I then pursued two additional years of postdoctoral training at the Institute of Chemistry,Academia Sinica,in Taiwan. In 1991, I joined my alma mater, Fu Jen Catholic University,as a permanent faculty member and remained there until my retirement in 2023.
